Why We Hire Agency Builders Over Corporate Specialists – and Why It Matters for Mid-Market

What makes agency and small startup hires top priority for our recruitment pipeline?

Versatility in driving entire workflows end-to-end is absolutely paramount in an era where 30+ different tools can launch a site + omnichannel campaign within 24 hours.

The biggest corporate disappointment in interviewing high profile senior, manager, director roles across hundreds of reputable names is niche profiling that’s neither deep enough, nor delivered with the autonomy or speed that the market needs today.

Some examples:

– Initial mockups that take days
– Long-form reports that take 5-8 days to deliver
– Campaigns requiring 20 hours to bootstrap
– Dashboards taking 40 hours for a semi-working prototype
– Outbound campaigns that start in 2 weeks after tons of manual prospecting and shortlisting
– Event planning taking a week to compile opinions or thoughts

Interviewing for engineering roles with limited coding understanding and lack of computer science, cloud, product principles is troubling (thanks to the era of bootcamp).

Account managers selling 5-10 predefined packages as “customer support on steroids” do not move the needle in a professional environment today.

Sales managers using playbooks from 2015 that millions of Asian accounts have automated ages ago isn’t competitive.

Marketers proficient in a single skill (article writing, landing page buildouts, Meta campaigns, email marketing…) who cannot translate to a full end to end campaign, cannot effectively operate with agents today without the corresponding background to vet the work produced.

Plenty of other roles between brand marketing, event management, low-level talent sourcing, 1st level support, asset design are already seeing the deprecation of entire job categories, ran by chatbots like Intercom or design tools like Canva (that have been around for over a decade anyway).

This is why we’re still operating with an agency mindset productizing as a startup while serving mid-market companies.

And this is the background and culture we vet and hire for across engineering, marketing, account, and data roles.
