The AI slop plus the virality/clickbait across social networks led to the loss of tens of thousands of great educators, inventors, scientists, philosophers, business minds of all walks of life – entirely due to the unbearable noise out there.
Enabling everyone to create content at scale is beneficial to social networks (free content), but without proper moderation and algorithmic filtering, we’re victims of 3 years of clickbait and ridiculous narratives served online.
I no longer post nearly as much educational content online (for over a year now).
– Seth Godin, a marketing legend, complained about a massive drop in reach.
– Neil Patel reported organic social drop by roughly 61.83% in the past 3 years.
Even LinkedIn copywriters and trainers and content creators are giving up (and that’s not universal to LinkedIn, but includes X, SEO, YouTube, and other public, organic, content networks).
That whole echo chamber mutes outreach efforts big time, leading to:
1. Authentic, real-time connections worth more than ever in the past 40 years (plus word of mouth)
2. Not relying on platforms for distribution (since social and TOFU SEO were both annihilated) means that WordPress and content marketing carry more weight than 5 years ago
More observations from experience (and across the portfolio) in this week’s newsletter.
