Why Real Executives Go Anonymous: The Spam-Driven Social Media Underground

The main drawback of X, Reddit, Discord is the appalling amount of random anonymous accounts hanging out.

Yet the key difference is a handful of cat or AI-gen avatars with absurd bios may turn out to be executives with $50M personal net worth who don’t want to get stalked and spammed like crazy via “professional” networks.

I’m all about transparency, open source, public data, education etc, but the levels of spam and ruthless outreach going on over the past few years do explain this paradox.

I won’t be surprised if all Fortune 500 founders have fake social accounts to browse around individually without getting bombarded by all outreach, leadgen, agency, freelance, consulting pitches just because they slapped “CEO” or “Investor” in the bio and ended up on a thousand high profile lists.
