An operating partner showed me a portfolio company last month where ARR was up twenty-two percent for the year while the revenue actually landing in the bank was flat. Both numbers were real. The gap between them was the whole story, and it was hiding in the blend.
New logos were up and expansion looked healthy on the slide, but underneath that, dollar churn was eating almost all of it and a few large accounts were quietly contracting. The headline growth metric had been built to average all of that into one comfortable line, so the board saw momentum while the bank account saw stagnation.
This is what I would call the value-creation gap. It isn’t a company that is failing. It’s a company whose real performance is obscured by the way it measures itself, so nobody intervenes on the thing that actually matters. And it almost always surfaces in the first hundred days, but only if someone rebuilds the cohorts honestly instead of trusting the deck.
We have received 20+ requests to review RevOps funnels or P&Ls, review portfolio performance across PE firms, or do digital due diligence pre-merger. It has now branched into individual DevriX retainers and Growth Shuttle advisory services working separately or together.
