The Operator Gap: Why Execution Experience Matters More Than Ever

The dreadful outcome of zoom fatigue or back to back meetings for years in this economy today are millions of task coordinators and strategists with light portfolios (if available at all).

As an operator, I’ve spent 25+ years in the trenches. Even more now in the agentic era.

I’m a tough interviewer because I dig into the details.

When was the last time you ran a campaign?

What were the average CPMs you optimized against?

How would you spin up this MVP for this category?

What’s your 7-30 day split for a $10K GTM test?

Between Cloudflare, AWS, GCP, what use case best defines the right top-level data layer?

For ABM in healthcare, what campaign mix makes the most sense?

Sometimes I miss the uncomfortable questions and end up hiring great CVs with no practical operational experience. And that’s on me for failing to ask the right questions that seem obvious after a decade on the field.

But today, what didn’t make sense to do day-to-day is pretty quick to spin up with modern vibe platforms or agentic systems.

Hiring managers alone is not a strong operational call and leads to a drag.

And requires more and more people on the same call vs. operators.
