I wrote an agency hiring checklist for Entrepreneur Media in 2021, later expanded and adapted in early 2023 for my newsletter: still valid today.
In 2021, global hiring during WFH + VC funds pouring cash over startups were smashing employee productivity and companies were going backwards. Retaining motivated, creative, forward-looking people was harder than ever.
The market has reversed since, after a handful of layoffs, hiring freezes, non-ZIRP, and agentic systems plus co-pilots boosting productivity at the workspace.
But the core skills required to get the system working are still comparable.
Along with our progression from tech through GTM to operational consulting (revops/finops), what makes a talent valuable remains within specific traits and qualities that schools and universities should pay attention to instead.
