From Racecars to Rockets: Why Most Businesses Are Operating at a Fraction of Their Potential in 2026

Great chat with Maurizio Cuna for Consulting Intel – some angles I haven’t touched on in a while!

The human behind “@themgmtconsult” on X with 10,000 followers in management consulting and GTM for successful businesses, and the author of this reputable newsletter with 5,600 subscribers on Substack (and counting) is a source of insights, business inspiration, and consulting theory worth following along.

When MC sent over the draft, I didn’t immediately resonate with the title. Not a massive fan of cars and it felt slightly disconnected.

A few moments later, I finally pictured an exquisite racecar pacing to 320-350 km/h, stuck in the mid and barely making through 40-50 max speed, all dirty and greasy and operating at 10% capacity while amortization going to the sky.

We see tons of businesses stuck in that loop in 2025 and 2026, as competition now shifts between autonomous self-driving cars, drones, and space shuttles doing full circles. What was previously considered normal velocity in 2020 is now unacceptable, with 10x gains or higher completely achievable in dozens of verticals and areas.

We touched on other topics around and outside of AI as well. Link in the comments below.
