From Growth Hyperdrive to Efficiency Era: How SaaS, Social Platforms, and LinkedIn Shifted from Expansion to Stagnation After 2020

SaaS, digital tech/social, the cloud in the early 2010s were extremely exciting – and we lost this around the pandemic.

This one is how Newsletters got “invented” on LinkedIn in 2018 as well.

1. Working closely with the LI community
2. Following 2 years of pioneering LI as a content platform (after the 2016 Microsoft acquisition)
3. Bringing Instagram, Facebook and Twitter crowds to LinkedIn as an instrument vastly exceeding the previous “online CVs” format of a ghost town
4. Pilots and beta tests with engaged users
5. Active work with power users

We lost that inertia over the past 5 years.

Layoffs from 2022-2023 until now (and counting) are closely tied to speed, efficiency, performance, and actually “moving the needle”.

I haven’t seen a single LI update since 2023 😔

The collectie digital reset is entirely tied to this rapid slowdown in the past 5 years. It’s no accident and it’s clearly visible and comparable.
