File Management: The Everyday Business Task AI Still Can’t Get Right

Claude is now able to do what systems were supposed to do early on – manage real admin files, which is what most of the desk workers do on a daily basis:

ChatGPT’s Agent failed to rename a spreadsheet’s name or a sheet after over a dozen attempts (I started recording after the first 5 minutes).

One of my biggest work pet peeves is LLMs not integrated within the document management ecosystem – Google Drive or Dropbox or any other collective storage outside of their in-house ones.

MCPs don’t seem to work, nor is Google’s Agent 2 Agent ecosystem (which I expected to work seamlessly to create files in Google Drives at least, but doesn’t).

When Agent was introduced, I was certain that research will now finally be accommodated within P&L sheets, forecasting, research breakdowns for people/companies, revenue data, charts, summaries.

But this is the current state of Agent’s evolution.

Will this work in a month or three? Most likely yes.

But if 101 management operations aren’t achievable yet after 2.5 years of LLM dominance, business roles are still safe and mundane tasks aren’t over yet. Even if the virtual machine agentic UI workflow is fairly new, MCPs should have been flawless in the department in office workers and corporations are hungry to automate processes – and everything is moving between files and folders in orgs.
