Email-First Growth: How I’m Finally Crossing 10K Subscribers with SparkLoop After 6 Months of Troubleshooting

SparkLoop is finally back on – expecting to cross 10k email subscribers in the next 2-4 weeks for my executive insider newsletter.

Refind really accelerated the boost in January and I’ve been trying to get SparkLoop running again for probably 6 months. It worked in 2023, then it didn’t, but the positive feedback in 2024 moved it back to the priority queue.

Louis Nicholls and I spoke back in October since beehiiv is running iframe embeds as forms, and tracking this by default isn’t working well. He suggested putting up a Carrd template to get this running. We couldn’t get this moving in the busy Q4, and paid ads were pretty expensive at the time (between elections and shopping sprees).

But Q1 is my favorite time to run ads (buying the dip).

With the recent light rebrand of the newsletter (from my previous posts), I’m now running traffic straight to the beehiiv subscribe page.

So I simply had to reactivate SparkLoop’s previous settings without having to work through a separate landing page and webhooks and all that.

I was living in the content/organic bubble for 20 years and I never properly launched email up until 2017. But first-party is top of mind for me:

– 1:1 relationships
– Personal contacts
– Email newsletter
– Slack communities
– Small hosted events

I’m seeing dramatically better results with email in the mix.

And as organic SEO and social don’t work, content and social views DO get impressions from email and paid.

So the new funnel is email + targeted paid to MOFU/BOFU and cross-posting between email, video, published content.

This is a playbook I advocate for across my executive network, the CEO hangout community, my Slack advisory group. If you’re not blessed by the social or SEO gods right now, it’s a logical scenario that compounds over time.

sparkloop is back on
