How Would You Start if You Want to Create a Mastermind Group?

Mastermind groups aren’t meant to push your business further.

It’s about others.

Successful mastermind groups revolve around successful people who hang out together OR industry leaders forming them to coach, educate, inspire.

So there are practically two options:

  1. If you are a regular Joe, check out your network of peers who are, more or less, in the same place (business-wise), sharing similar goals. Pitch to them the idea of your group and offer them a schedule that will supposedly work for all.
  2. If you are a known name in your field, you can create an invite-only group (and even charge for it) given that you can provide additional value to your team. It’s fine if you get the occasional idea or insight, but you come from a place of authority, and that’s what people expect from you.

You won’t simply boost your business right away. Yes, if people in your network respect you and happen to be interested, you may gather together like-minded folks who would help you as a result. But it would be a side effect of forming the group, not by default, measurable outcome.

It’s true that it doesn’t really matter for most people how much you know until they know how much you care. If you want to be in a position of influence, you have to be in a position where you are ready to extend help where and when it is needed.

After all, joining or starting a mastermind group is all about leveraging your network. The power of networking done right can be enormous. But what value are you able to bring to the table? Answer that before working on your personal brand which you can do by boosting your online presence.
